Next to the school that I am working at, they are building a brand new American Consulate. It sure is nice to know that a bit of homeland is just a hop, skip, and a jump away, but with the good comes the bad. Our school was once again without power for the majority of the school day, because of the construction.
This brings up a great reminder that when you plan you should always have a BACKUP plan. Whether you are integrating technology into the curriculum or planning to use an outdoor space for an ecology lesson, a teacher must always hope for the best, but plan for the worst. If it is tech planning, then know what you will do if the power is out all day. If it is an outdoor ecology lesson, then know what you will do if it is raining, snowing, or all of the above!
Oh, and on another note…make sure the plans for your school building includes natural light sources in the bathrooms! This seems to be a design flaw internationally!
