The Partnership for 21st Century Skills has the goal of preparing today’s students of the United States to compete in our global economy in of tomorrow. They believe that schools must infuse the standard curriculum with activities that build skills for critical thinking and problem solving, communication, collaboration and creativity and innovation.
P21 proposes that the core subjects should also include 21st Century themes such as the following: (click on each theme to learn more about them)

- Health literacy
- Environmental literacy
They have created a fabulous resource for teachers to learn more about implementing the 21st Century Skills into their curriculum. A site called Route 21 includes videos examples of outstanding lessons in action, a wiki for teachers to gather lessons and post lessons, a support system to assist with professional development, among other helpful resources to get you started in teaching for the 21st Century.
